Cologne Public Library

Cologne Library is a thriving system of the central library, 11 branches, a mobile library and a library for the blind, it hosts the Heinrich-Böll-Archive with the last study (completely furnished) of this Nobel Prize Winner, and the so-called Germania Judaica, a library with 60.000 media about Jews in Germany. The youngest 'baby” is the Minibib - the library in the park. More than 8.000 visitors coming to the library each day make it the most frequented cultural institution of Cologne. The library hosts about 800.000 media of any kind. Staff members are friendly and competent, and the staff members can communicate in 14 languages. Bilingual education is very important for us and one of our main topics is integration of all kinds of ethnical and social groups.

Special focuses are different programmes for the promotion of reading and information literacy as well as digital literacy - in close cooperation with a large number of schools, colleges, kindergartens and other organisations. On top of that there is a large number of cultural events. Since many years there have been internet and digital user training classes with hands-on practice of various kinds like

First steps of searching the web for beginners
Professional information research in databases, web portals and catalogues
Special topics (searching for jobs, travel information, news etc.)
Internet use for kids and for senior citizens
'What Google can’t find” - searching the deep web
Special digital training programmes for students and teachers.
